NIACL AO 2025 Exam Pattern- Phase 2

1. The NIACL AO Mains Exam is divided into 2 sections: Objective & Descriptive type and the candidate have to pass each section separately.

2. The duration of the Objective type paper is of 2 hours and for descriptive, it is of 30 minutes.

3. There are 200 MCQ-type questions and 2 Essay/Letter Writing questions.

4. The descriptive test is conducted in the English language only.

5. There is a negative marking of ¼th mark for each incorrect answer.

NIACL AO Descriptive Test
The duration of the NIACL AO Descriptive Test will be 30 minutes and it will hold 30 marks. It will be a Test of English Language – Letter & Essay writing. NIACL AO descriptive test will be conducted in English and will take place online.

The selection process for NIACL (New India Assurance Company Limited) Assistant 2025 consists of three stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Online Objective Test)

Note: There is no interview round for the Assistant post.


Stage 1: Preliminary Exam

  • Mode: Online (CBT)

  • Duration: 1 hour

  • Total Marks: 100

  • Sections:

    • English Language (30 Q, 30 marks)

    • Reasoning Ability (35 Q, 35 marks)

  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer

  • Purpose: Qualifying for Mains (sectional and overall cut-offs apply)


Stage 2: Main Exam

  • Duration: 2 hours

  • Total Marks: 250

  • Negative Marking: 0.25 per wrong answer

  • Final Merit: Based only on Main Exam marks.


Stage 3: Regional Language Test

  • Candidates who qualify the Main exam must prove proficiency in the regional language of the state they applied for.

  • Test format: Read, write, and speak in the local language.

  • Failure in this test leads to disqualification, even if selected in the Main exam.


Stage 4: Document Verification

  • Verification of all educational, category, identity, and language proficiency documents.

  • Medical examination may be required as per NIACL norms.

  • Only Main Exam marks are considered for the final merit ranking.

  • Prelims marks are not added to the final score.

  • Category-wise cut-offs are applied in both Prelims and Mains.

Focus on:

  • Insurance sector (IRDAI, policies, terms)

  • Current affairs (last 6–8 months)

  • Banking/financial news

  • Static GK (awards, sports, important dates)

  • Computer basics (hardware, software, networks, cyber security)

  • Prelims: Focus on speed and accuracy in Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. Practice 1-hour sectional mocks.

  • Mains: Strengthen General Awareness (especially insurance-related) and Computer Aptitude. Practice descriptive language basics.

  • Regional Language: Start early—practice reading, writing, and basic conversation in the state language you choose.
