Frequently Asked Questions

This is a special recruitment drive by the BSF to recruit outstanding sportspersons as Constable (General Duty). The aim is to strengthen the force’s sports teams and promote excellence in sports. Selected candidates are required to represent the BSF in various national and international competitions while also performing general security and border duties. It is a unique opportunity for athletes to serve in a central armed police force.

  • Educational Qualification: Usually Class 10th (Matriculation) pass from a recognized board.

  • Age Limit: Generally 18 to 23 years. Age relaxation is provided for SC/ST/OBC as per government norms.

  • Sports Eligibility: Candidates must have represented their state/country in national/international competitions in specified sports (e.g., Athletics, Boxing, Wrestling, Kabaddi, Football, etc.). A minimum performance standard or medal at certain levels (like National Games, SGFI, etc.) is mandatory. The exact list of sports and achievement criteria will be in the official notification.

The process is distinct from the regular GD exam:

  1. Application & Scrutiny: Verification of sports certificates and achievements.

  2. Trial/Proficiency Test: Physical trials and skill tests in the candidate’s specific sport to assess current form and ability. This is the most critical stage.

  3. Document Verification: Thorough check of original sports certificates, educational documents, and identity proofs.

  4. Medical Examination: Must meet the rigorous medical standards of BSF for GD posts.

  5. Merit List: Final selection is based primarily on performance in the sports trial and the level of past achievements.

  • Pay Scale: Selected candidates are appointed as Constable (GD) in Pay Level 3 (₹21,700 – ₹69,100) as per the 7th CPC.

  • Salary: The starting in-hand salary is approximately ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 per month, including various allowances (DA, HRA, Ration, etc.).

  • Sports Perks: Additional benefits include special training facilities, equipment, exposure to top competitions, and possible out-of-turn promotions for exceptional sports performance.

Career growth follows the standard BSF GD promotion ladder (Head Constable, ASI, etc.). However, outstanding sportspersons may get accelerated promotions based on their performance in force and national-level sports events. They also have opportunities to become sports instructors within the force.
